10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0-BLAST OFF!

Today we read the story, "Out in Space" to introduce our study of "Outer Space". Before we read the story, we asked the children to tell us what they know about Outer Space. Here is what they said...

"There are aliens in Outer Space."
"There are rocketships in Outer Space."
"There is a planet "X"."
"Astronauts go in Space."
"There's a sun."
"Astronauts went on the moon."
"Parts of the rocketship stay up in Space."
"Every planet has moons."
"They put telescopes in Space."
"Some planets can be hot or cold."

We will spend from now until Spring Break learning about Outer Space. There are a variety of activities to choose from during Free Choice time related to Outer Space, including: puzzles; non-fiction and fiction books; a miniature space station and astronauts to use in the construction zone; a Space game called "Space Face"; and art activities. Of course a popular activity is pretending to be an astronaut in our dramatic play space station.
