VALENTINE'S DAY

On Friday February 13th, the morning Pre-K class will celebrate Valentine's Day with a party from 10:30-11:30. Parents are welcome to join us for this celebration. Here is what we need for you and your child to do in preparation for our party....

~Children DO NOT need to decorate a box at home. The children will be decorating a bag at school in which they will collect their valentines from classmates.

~Please have your child bring 21 valentines to school on the morning of February 13th. We will have the children distribute their valentines prior to the party. In order to make distribution easy and simple, please have your child sign his/her name on the card only. You do not need to put classmates' names on the envelopes.

~Our 2nd grade buddies will be joining us for a brief time during our party to assist their Pre-K buddies in opening and reading their valentines. Please have your child bring in a valentine(s) for their buddies. Be sure to ask your child if he/she has 1 or 2 second grade buddies.

~Candy attached to valentine cards for classmates is fine, BUT PLEASE NO CANDY WHICH CONTAINS NUTS OR PEANUT BUTTER.

Hope to see you at the party!

EYE COLOR GRAPH

After reading a book about the sense of seeing and the parts of our eye, we made our own class eye color graph. See the picture below for our finished product. Be sure to ask your child which eye color had the most, which eye color had the least, and if any of the eye colors were equal.

Parker colors in the color of his eyes.

Gluing the eyes on our graph.

Our finished graph!

WEEK OF JANUARY 19TH

Dear Parents--
We hope you enjoyed the 4-day weekend and aren't suffering too badly from cabin fever! Since we did not finish our study of the letter sound, N, last week and we have a shortened week this week, we have decided not to introduce a new letter sound this week.

We are hoping to spend some time on Tuesday talking about Martin Luther King, Jr. and also the Presidential Inauguration--some good history lessons! We will also spend time this week learning the lines for our play, "The Bear Case". We will send home a note via your child's folder by this Friday if he/she would benefit from practicing his/her lines at home also. Some of the lines are very simple and our rehearsals at school are enough.

Beginning Tuesday morning this week, you may begin scheduling on line for the upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences.

Stay Warm! Lisa and Shari

HOW DOES IT FEEL?

Our hands filled with different textures look great on the bulletin board in the hallway outside our classroom. The children are finding wonderful items to put on each different textured hand. We will continue this homework activity throughout next week. (January 12-16)

HEAR THIS!

Today we did 2 different activities involving our sense of hearing.

The activity below is called "Eggs Full of Sound". In each different numbered egg is an object. To discover what is in the egg, a child shakes the egg and reviews the picture cards which offer them ideas and options of which object it might be. Opening the egg, children can see first-hand if their guess was correct.

Blake is shaking her egg and, using her hearing, makes a guess as to which object is in the egg.

It was the key!

The second hearing activity involved listening to a cassette tape with various recorded sounds. Children used their sense of hearing and photo cards to determine which sound they were hearing.

Both of these hearing activities are now available in the Discovery Center and can be used during Free Choice time.

ZERO THE HERO!

Today we celebrated our 70th day of school--WOW!! We dyed and decorated hard-boiled eggs and heard a dinosaur story. Thank you to Donald and his mom and his brother, Taylor, for helping us celebrate!
