SECOND STEP

"Second Step" is a program we use in Pre-K to build your child's social skills and self-esteem by giving her/him tools to solve everyday problems. The "Second Step" lessons teach skills in 3 areas:
1. Empathy Training
Children learn to: identify feelings.
predict how other people feel (by reading faces, body language).
show others they care (by responding to others' feelings).

2. Impulse Control
Children learn to: solve problems.
perform social skills (sharing, taking turns, etc.).

3. Anger Management
Children learn to: calm down.
redirect their feelings in more positive ways.

Following each weekly "Second Step" lesson, we will post a brief summary of the lesson on our blog. Children who learn and use the skills presented in this program are more likely to get along with other and people and do better in school.
